The idea of consolidating the anti-piracy effort in the sphere of interactive entertainment originated in the second half of the 90s. As a result the industry anti-piracy Association was founded in 1997. The European division of Sony Corporation was one of the first to join it. The current history of APCC dates back to 2003 when the original body was restructured, prevention of piracy in computer and video games remaining a primary goal of APCC activity. Unlike many law firms, we are detecting dishonest entrepreneurs without outside help and are taking appropriate measures against them. But not only that – our own IT experts conduct various examinations and expertise including profound software and technological ones instead of outsourcing them. Experienced attorneys are finding convincing methods of brining pressure on lawbreakers; whenever necessary they assist law enforcement structures and provide high quality legal support during litigation. The new anti-piracy law on the Internet is yet another tool for a successful implementation of the set tasks. Combating illegal activity on the Internet has become a recent priority and as far as APCC is concerned it goes beyond the boundaries of gaming. We are sharing our practices and know-how with our foreign colleagues for several years now and are passing our experience on to Russian enforcement bodies, customs agencies and other interested parties. In consolidated form that knowledge is a part of our presentations and technical manuals. Today we are highly qualified to fight abuse not only in game software and devices but also in other spheres.
Accumulated unique experience in combating abuse in the intellectual property sphere,
Developed original computer software and technologies making much faster the process of detecting and taking down infringing content on the Internet,
Formed a database of over 5 thousand websites with detected infringing content that is permanently expanded,
Set up cooperation with Police Departments in dozens of Russian regions,
Retained freelancers in some of those regions,
Prepared technical manuals and aids making it easier and unmistakably spotting signs of counterfeiting that are being used by law enforcement and customs officers for many years now,
Gained great reputation with representatives of third parties and law enforcement bodies who address APCC for consultation,
Our foreign colleagues have a high opinion about APCC IT experts and are using their advice in their practical activity.
In order to receive the entire portfolio of the services by APCC experts, legal counsels and specialists it is most rational to join the Association, but we can also be commissioned to perform single tasks.
